Traditional Fado music brings summer alive inTavira

Between the fados of Raquel Tavares and the eclectic rhythms of Mayra Andrade, Tavira (Eastern Algarve, Portugal) will not sleep in August.

The voice of the strong and bold fadista (as in fado singer) Raquel Tavares will fill up the Fabrica Balsense in Tavira, on August 1, at 22:30.

On the 12th of August, at the same time, it’s the turn of sweet Mayra Andrade to present her latest work "Storia storia".

Raquel Tavares was born in Lisbon in 1985 and started to sing fado with only 6 years in small local restaurants in rustic Alfama. In 2006, she was awarded the Prize Revelation Amalia Rodrigues and has been highlighted nationally and internationally, with tours through France, Italy, Spain and Chile, among others. The last work of Raquel Tavares, "Bairro", refers to the Alfama and portrays a number of key moments in the musical journey of this fadista.

Mayra Andrade, daughter of Cape Verdean parents, was born in Cuba, grew up between Senegal, Angola, Cape Verde and Germany and lives now in France since 2003.

With a sweet voice and Cape Verdean roots, the music of Mayra Andrade reflects her life experiences, her singing combines the rhythms jazz, african and Brazilian altogether.
