Your Own Holiday Home in the Economical Algarve

If you are considering investing in a holiday home in the Algarve and plan to spend a bit of time in this beautiful part of Portugal then you may be interested in a survey that has just been published by Eurostat.

The figures prove that in general going shopping in Portugal is on average 5% cheaper than neighbouring Spain and an Algarve holiday is actually cheaper than a lot of other European holidays including Dubrovnik!

Portugal proved to have very favourable prices regarding alcoholic drinks and tobacco as well as most food items. We all know that eating out in Portugal is also very good value, so generally speaking once you have your own holiday home and take advantage of the fantastic deals on flights to Faro, the Algarve’s main international airport, your holiday will be very inexpensive indeed.

Owning your own Algarve villa or apartment is a safe and reliable place to invest your hard earned cash and will also provide economical holidays for you and your family for many years to come.

Take a look at these beautiful apartments and villas in Fuzeta in the unspoilt Eastern Algarve and contact me now for more information.

Albufeira Hot Air Balloon Festival

The lively town of Albufeira in the Algarve region of Portugal was host last weekend to the first Albufeira Hot Air Balloon Festival. The event took place over the entire weekend with more than twenty balloons taking part.

There were lots of events including races over Albufeira, and demonstrations on the famous Praia dos Pescadores beach.

Visitors to the festival were able to take short trips up in the basket of a tethered balloon which was very popular, especially with the children.

There are several companies in the Algarve offering balloon rides allowing visitors to view the whole region from a different angle and admire the amazing scenery from above. A hot air balloon ride could be the highlight of your trip to the Algarve and a wonderful surprise or present for a special occasion.

There is so much to see and do in the Algarve that you can return again and again and always find something new. That is why owning your own holiday home in this beautiful part of Portugal is such a great idea. Every time you visit you know there will be a new adventure just waiting to happen.

Portugal Day is Celebrated Throughout the Algarve

Tomorrow, June 10th, is Portugal Day, and a big public holiday throughout the Algarve and the rest of Portugal.

The day is officially named after Luis de Camoes a renowned Portuguese poet who penned an epic national poem, Os Lusiadas, describing Portuguese history and achievements through the years.

The poem has become symbolic with Portuguese national pride and although Camoes died so many years ago on June 10th 1580 his memory lives on in the hearts of the fiercely proud citizens of Portugal.

There are several celebrations due to take place throughout the Algarve in lively towns such as Albufeira and quieter ones such as Tavira.

Businesses, schools and banks in the Algarve will be closed for the holiday allowing the people of Portugal to take pride in and celebrate this wonderful nation.

The Hidden Surprises of the Eastern Algarve

The unspoilt Eastern Algarve is generally a little less well known by visitors who flock to the Algarve region of Portugal from all over the world every year to enjoy a relaxing, sunny and fun summer holiday.

The ancient town of Tavira is fantastic place to visit and makes an ideal base for your holiday with plenty of beautiful locations nearby for you to visit while you explore the area.

Close to Tavira is an idyllic beauty spot known as Pego do Inferno, a series of magical waterfalls that run over a stretch of two kilometres into the Asseca river valley. This eventually flows into the river Gilao that famously bisects Tavira, greatly adding to the charm and atmosphere of this lovely old town.

The waterfalls at Pego do Inferno are popular with locals as well as visitors and make a refreshing alternative to the beach on a hot day. The cool crystal clear water is bordered by pebbly beaches and with plenty of rocks from which to jump in there is lots of fun for all.

Since increasing in popularity Tavira council has created a car park and picnic area at Pego do Inferno and there is a kiosk in the summer months offering drinks and snacks.

The Algarve is full of delightful surprises and owning a holiday home here would give you plenty of opportunities to enjoy them all.

The Algarve Hosts The International Sand Sculpture Festival

When you next visit the Algarve region of Portugal you will probably expect to spend some time on the beach, after all the beaches in the Algarve are probably the region’s best known feature.

And what could be more fun than building a sand castle while you are there?

Should you be visiting the beach at Pera near Albufeira in the Central Algarve however, you may well feel slightly inadequate in the sand castle department as last Saturday saw the opening of the annual sand sculpture competition.

This is the 8th year that the International Sand Sculpture Festival has taken place in the Algarve and the standard just gets better and better. 35,000 tons of sand is used in an area of 15,000 square metres to create breathtaking sculptures inspired by this year’s theme of the Living World.
Artists from all over the world come to the Algarve to take part and show off their creative talents in this the largest sand sculpture festival in the world.

There is also an opportunity to build your own sculpture and take part in various activities suitable for both adults and children.

The festival is open from 22nd May until 22nd October so why not pay a visit this summer on your next trip to the beautiful Algarve region in the south of Portugal.
